Playa Raya, Panama: The Untouched Beach Next to Playa Venao (2026 Guide)
By Gustavo Szuchman, Papaya Holdings · Published · Last updated
Playa Raya is a quiet, undeveloped beach about five minutes south-west of Playa Venao on Panama's Azuero Peninsula. Beachfront and back lots are still available, which is rare this close to Venao.

What is Playa Raya?
Playa Raya is a quiet, largely undeveloped beach on the Azuero Peninsula, about five minutes by car south-west of Playa Venao, one of Panama's best-known Pacific surf beaches. There are no hotels, restaurants or crowds. It faces the open Pacific and sits within a coastal corridor that has drawn serious real estate interest since 2023.
Beachfront land in Playa Venao itself is now scarce; most of what remains is on the hills, in the second row or on resale. Playa Raya is the adjacent coastline that has not yet been priced like Venao.
Where is Playa Raya?
On Panama's Pacific coast, at the southern end of the Azuero Peninsula in Los Santos Province. The drive from Panama City takes about five hours via the Pan-American Highway through Chitré and Las Tablas.
| From Playa Raya to… | Approx. time |
|---|---|
| Playa Venao (centre) | 5 minutes |
| Pedasí airstrip (domestic flights) | ~25–30 minutes |
| Pedasí town | ~30 minutes |
| Las Tablas | ~50 minutes |
| Chitré (hospital, airport) | ~1.5 hours |
| Panama City (Tocumen airport) | ~5 hours |
Venao's restaurants, surf schools, yoga studios and grocery stores are a short drive away, so Raya is undeveloped but not remote.
Why Playa Raya is getting attention
- Venao's beachfront is effectively taken. Buyers who want early-stage beach land near Venao have to look next door.
- Infrastructure is arriving. A permit has been approved for a public boardwalk of about 1 km at Playa Raya, and roads, water and power are being upgraded.
- One market. The Pedasí–Playa Venao–Playa Raya coast is increasingly treated as a single corridor, much like Nosara–Sámara in Costa Rica.

- Zoning and coastal setbacks for what you want to build.
- Utilities: power, water and internet at or near the boundary.
